Here's the process for this piece I did Sunday morning. I literally woke up, grab my ipad and started drawing this image for an idea I've been toying with for awhile. I was outta bed by 10:00 a.m. with the piece finished. Enjoy the video and please give it a like or leave a comment. It's nice to know people are out there curious about my art.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Below is a video of my sketch process using Procreate on the ipad. The video shows my beginning sketch phases between Miles and Gwen. I did a light sketch of Miles in my sketchbook that I really liked, so for him, I went straight into the line work. For Gwen, you'll see that go through multiple poses and that's typically my process for any character sketch that becomes a print. If this was a comic book any of the poses would work because you would be drawing the character over and over though out the book. But since this will be a print, I'm really looking for that right dynamic pose that captures everything a fan would want out of the image. And for me, each final pose is like my signature, my stamp on the character. Please enjoy the video and leave a comment or like, it's nice to know someone is watching out there, Thank You! (You can see the final image as a print in the store. - Just click on the Thor Viking image to the right.) My apologies to anyone that may check-in from time to time and does not see a new post from me. I know, I'm terrible about this. It has been busy since wrapping up the year with Ace con and looking to next year's con line up. I'll be posting more frequently now that I can focus a bit more on myself and art. Please come back! Talk to ya soon - Gomez
First, the Southside comic book show. This show took place on Saturday September 14th in Alsip IL. The show is run by Rocky a.k.a. Matt Murdock and his family, who work together to make us, the artist and vendor feel at home. This is the second year for the show and my second time participating. Although it's a very small show, it packs a punch. Rocky, the show runner has been passionate about comics his whole life and it comes through in the show he puts on. The entrance fee in totally affordable, the artists and vendors are those you'll find at the bigger shows and it's convenient. You don't have to spend all day there and who doesn't want to spend a Saturday looking through comics?
Second, The Galaxy comic and fantasy art expo in Joliet IL. This took place Saturday September 21st. This show is run by Jody McQuarters and is held in Joliet's downtown museum. I've been doing this show for the past 4 years now and I have to say that hands down, this is one of the best one day shows of the year. It keeps getting better and better. The only thing is the foot traffic is not there and this show deserves better. It's four floors of Awesomeness! I know Jody does a good job getting the word out but the people have to show up. I would really hate to see this show go away, it's just too good. Anyhoo, I gotta run. I'll probably come back to this post later to officially wrap it up. Link to more info about the shows below. Galaxy Comics and Fantasy Art Expo Southside Comic Book Show Wizard World 2019 is now over. I can not begin to express my appreciation to all those who have purchased my art and have become fans of my art over the years and currently. This year's Wizard World I met so many incredible people that were kind, generous and incredibly creative. From the bottom of my heart want to say thank you! Your positive kind words make want I do worth pursuing each year. To the fantastic young lady who cosplayed as my Harley Quinn Cubs print (see picture below) you made my convention year. My only regret was I never asked your name, nor did I offer you a free print for your awesomeness, was just caught up in the moment. You have a free print coming to you whenever you see me again. My pal Pat introduced me to his brother in-law John whom in the short time we met made a big impression on me with his kindness, honesty and selflessness, thanks John! The images below are from and older post. My display and button size in my current stock have changed but otherwise the process is the same.
Yesterday was Mini Con at the International School of Comics Chicago and the buttons went over well with the patrons - which was and is totally exciting for me. Professional comic book artist, Hilary Barta, one of the many talents that tabled yesterday, thought these were pretty cool - cool enough that I should send one to Svengoolie and see if airs it on television. So we’ll see how it goes, I’ll keep you posted. visit Hilary Barta blog at - www.surlyhackattack.blogspot.com I know! I'm late to the game with posting my art videos on my blog but to be honest, I never thought about it until recently. And now that I know I can there will be plenty more to come. Please, feel free to ask any questions regarding the art process or please just comment so that I know you're out there. Talk to ya soon! (This video also has music I created which may be loud once you start to play the vid so be warned.) It’s been awhile since I last posted and that’s because i’m Vacationing with the family at Wisconsin Dells, where something wicked this way comes.
just kidding! It looks like it though in my photos. I’ve been working on some new prints for upcoming shows which I will announce once I return home and share my latest art processes as well. Hope you all have had some time this summer to do something relaxing whether it be some good old alone time or with your family. Anyhoo, I’ll catch up with y’all later, Byeeeee! So, you might be saying to yourself "Self!...something different here at casa D'Gomez" and you're right!
I dropped several pages from my site to tailor it to a blog & shop site. I felt my site was getting a bit too stale and crowded, I just found it a bit too cumbersome to maintain. I want to focus on sharing my drawings, thoughts, ideas with you all and make it a skosh more intimate. So, Please visit more often! I'll keeping working on the site, little by little with the blog as the body. I've got plans and part of that plan is to share what's the latest and greatest with you all. That's It! I've said too much! I find, if I talk about my ideas too much I don't finish them - I've gotta walk the walk if I'm going to talk the talk. So again, come back soon, I'll be posting my train doodles that I share on Instagram on the regular and more! Bye for now! -GOMEZ You ever start doodling without any aim as to what you're doing and you end up with something kind of awesome?! That's what the piece below is. I'll post some process pics soon. Right now, it's late and I have to hit the sack! Let me know whatcha think! |
